A Mega Millions ticket sold in Northern California won $917,636 after matching 5 numbers but not the Mega Ball. The winning ticket was sold at Garry's Smoke Shop in Oakley, about 40 miles southeast of Sacramento. The Mega Millions jackpot now resets to an estimated $125 million for the next drawing on December 26.
A Mega Millions ticket sold in Northern California fell just one number short of winning the 100 million jackpot lottery officials said. Instead the lucky ticket won 917 636. The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Mega Ball in the drawing Tuesday Dec. 23 with a 2x multiplier the California State Lottery said. California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners. The lucky ticket was sold at Garys Smoke Shop at 2190 Main St. in Oakley which is a little more than 40 miles southeast of Sacramento. The winning numbers were 15 37 38 41 and 64 with a Mega Ball of 21 the lottery said. Nobody won the jackpot which now resets to an estimated 125 million with a cash option of approximately 56.9 million for the next drawing Friday Dec. 26 the national Mega Millions site said.. More than 335 000 other tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from 10 to 40 000 in the drawing the lottery said. More than 45 000 tickets sold in California also won prizes. The Mega Millions jackpot was previously hit Dec. 2 when a New Jersey player won the 90 million grand prize lottery officials said. To score the jackpot in Mega Millions a player must match all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball. The odds of scoring a jackpot prize are 1 in 290 472 336. Tickets cost 5 and can be bought on the day of the drawing but sales times vary by state. Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. PT and can be streamed online.
