In January 2016, Powerball made history by becoming the first lottery jackpot to reach $1 billion, with a grand prize of $1.586 billion that was split three ways among winners Maureen Smith and David Kaltschmidt of Melbourne Beach, Florida; John and Lisa Robinson of Munford, Tennessee; and Marvin and Mae Acosta of California. Smith and Kaltschmidt claimed their lump sum share of $528 million at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee in February 2016. The winning ticket was sold at a Publix supermarket in Melbourne Beach, Florida, one of three retail locations that sold winning tickets for this drawing.
